Cooking Time30 min

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 pound ground chuck
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups onions, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup dry red wine

Instructions

  1. Combine ground meat, salt, pepper, and parsley. Divide evenly into 4 portions and shape each into 3/4-inch to 1-inch thick oval patties. Place 2 Tbsp flour in a shallow dish; dredge each patty in flour. Reserve 1 tsp flour.

  2. Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a saute pan over medium-high heat. Add patties and saute 3 minutes on each side or until browned. Remove from pan.

  3. Add onions and sugar to pan; saute 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and tomato paste; saute 1 minute, or until paste begins to brown.

  4. Sprinkle onions with reserved flour; cook 1 minute. Stir in broth and wine.

  5. Return meat to pan and bring soup to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer 10 minutes.

  6. Serve while hot.

I was thinking about making Salisbury steak just the other day but I didn't. Of course I had no plans to prepare from scratch and I am happy to locate this simple recipe. My Salisbury steak usually begins with that cubed beef and sometimes ends up being a little chewy. I am anxious to try this recipe.

I enjoy eating Salisbury steak and so does my family. This recipe delivers a satisfying, savory meal that everyone will enjoy. Prepared in one pan, what could be easier? Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans, and dinner is ready.

We prepare Salisbury steak at least two to three times a month. Usually when I find cube steak at the market. I guess I never really thought about making it from scratch. No excuses now with this easy recipe and I bet it will be even better than my original recipe.

This is similar to the Salisbury Steak that I make, except I add minced carrots and tomatoes into the steak itself, pop it into the freezer for about 15 minutes to hold it together and then dredge it in the flour before browning. I've never browned tomato paste or used wine before though...I'm gonna have to try it that way.
