Edwards Wayne Edwards Wayne Robert Edwards, 72, of Castle Rock, died Sept. 8, 2002, at the Hospice Care Center. He was born May 25, 1930, in Grand Forks, British Columbia, Canada, to R.
Edwards and Marion (Scott) Edwards and lived in Washington from age 6 months until college. He attended UCLA and the University of Wayne California, Edwards receiving master's degrees in electronics, mathematics and psychology. He moved to the local area 13 years ago from California. Mr. Edwards served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He worked as a psychologist in private practice and for Lower Columbia Mental Health and was executive director of United Way. He retired in 1997. He was a member of the New Horizon Church in Kelso and was baptized this year. He volunteered at' Parents Place and enjoyed golf, reading, writing poems, playing cards, long drives in the country and a lifelong friendship with Dave Caldwell of Seattle. He never stopped learning and had a talent for touching the lives of others.
He married Donna R. Edwards on Oct. 4, 1976, in Las Vegas. She survives him at home. Also surviving are two sons, Greg Edwards of Corona, and Mike Edwards of West Covina, three daughters, Margie Edwards and Carol Edwards, both of Castle Rock, and Barbara, last name and residence unavailable; three brothers, Donald Edwards of St.
Louis, James Edwards of Sacramento, and Bob Thompson of Walla Walla, two sisters, Dorothy Edwards of Seattle and Judy Rielly of Kent, seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister, Viva Skow, preceded him in death in 1981. At his request, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cascade Northwest Funeral Chapel at Green Hills Memorial Gardens Walter Mittleider Longtime local resident Walter Mittleider, 73, died Sept. 6, 2002, at his Longview home.
He was born Dec. 30, 1928, in Underwood, N.D., to Jacob P. and Emelia (Fandrick) Mittleider and had lived in the local area for 60 years. Mr. Mittleider served 11 Walter years in the Mittleider Army and National Guard.
He worked for many years in sales. He was a member of the Walter Mittleider Elks Lodge, the American Legion and the Longview Moose Lodge. He loved bowing, fishing, camping, playing cards and especially spending time with family. His wife of 40 years, Phyllis, preceded him in death in 1992. A sister, Elsie Webb, also preceded him.
Survivors include his special friend, Suzanne Kelley of Longview; three daughters, Sandra A. Eckan of Gresham, Tamara S. Byrum of Castle Rock and Dawn M. Crawford of Longview; a son, Michael R. Mittleider, of Rancho Palos Verdes, a brother, Harry Mittleider of Vancouver; three sisters, Adeline Schafer of Bismarck, N.D., Ruth Henne of Bellevue and Ruby Gensler of Longview; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kathleen Patton officiating. A reception will be held after the service at the Longview Moose Lodge.
Private placement will be held at Longview Memorial Park. Friends are welcome to pay their respects from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Columbia Funeral Service.

John Medical Center: She was born March 3, 1923, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Jack and Ethel (Sylvester) Noseda and moved to the local area in 1924. She graduated with honors Anna Chalupa from Kelso High School in 1941 and married Sidney H. Chalupa in October that year. Mrs. Chalupa owned and operated the Kelso Maytag Mart with her husband from 1945 until their retirement in 1981.
In 1996, they moved to Kalama. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Kelso for 37 years, and became an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church when she moved to Kalama. She was an avid gardener.
Survivors include her husband at home; a daughter, Christine Chalupa-Skelton of Seattle; and two grandchildren, last names unavailable, Joe in Bothell, and Amy in San Francisco, Calif. She was born June 15, 1921, in Meade, to Charles E. and May (Wilson) Ray and graduated from Chimacum High School in Chimacum, Wash. She lived in Ephrata, for 20 years before moving to the Longview area eight years ago. Mrs. Raney enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, traveling, reading and ceramics.
She married John L. Raney on May 26, 1950, in Ephrata. He survives her at home. Also surviving are a son, John Fink of Las Vegas, and two grandchildren. At her request, no service will be held.
