Three Layer Tangerine Cake Featuring Noble Tangerine Juice {Recipe} (2024)

Florida is known for so many things, but more than anything else, we’re known for our citrus. Oranges, tangerines, clementines, you name it, we have it. And I try to keep them in our house on a regular basis. My kids love the sweet taste and I love that it’s a healthy snack with an extra boost for their little immune systems that seem to be constantly under fire. While they prefer to eat the fruit itself, it’s not uncommon for my kids to ask for orange or tangerine juice with dinner. So when I saw Seminole Pride Noble Tangerine Juice at Publix last week, I decided to pick it up.

What made me pick Noble? It was actually a pretty easy choice. You see, for 4 generations, the Roe Family – the family who originally started the Noble brand back in 1927 – has been producing the purest, freshest tasting juice. Now partnered with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, they continue to provide families with juice that contains no added vitamins, minerals, or flavors. There are no artificial colors or ingredients used, and there are never any preservatives. Noble Juices are gently pasteurized juices that are gluten free and made in the USA. Most importantly, there are no GMO’s. It’s all of the good stuff you want, and none of those “extras” you don’t need. They’re juices that you can feel good serving your family. But it doesn’t end at just Tangerine Juice. They have a full line of juices including 100% Tangerine Guava Mango Juice, 100% Florida Super Red Grapefruit Juice, Blood Orange Juice, Clementine Juice, 100% Florida Orange Juice, 100% Florida Tangerine Clementine Juice, and even Old-Fashioned Lemonade!Since my girls love clementines, I picked up the Noble Clementine Juice along with the Noble Blood Orange Juice. I’ll admit, that last one was out of sheer intrigue (turns out, it’s a great blend of sweet and tart). At the time, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with these juices, but then – as my kids asked for desert that night – it dawned on me: How about combining their favorite juice with dessert? Wouldn’t that be delicious?Turns out, it was. And it’s not terribly hard to make.

You will need:
1 box vanilla cake mix
1 1/2 cups Noble Tangerine Juice
4 eggs
1/3 vegetable oil
1 box orange gelatin
Orange food gel (I used neon colors)

Step 1 – Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom and sides of three 8″ round pans.

Step 2 – Combine cake mix, Noble Tangerine Juice, eggs, vegetable oil, and gelatin in a medium size mixing bowl. Beat for 30 on low, then 2 minutes on medium-high.

Step 3 – Pour 1/3 of the batter into one of the three 8″ pans. Place to the side.

Step 4 – Add a small amount of the orange food gel (less than a 1/4 tsp) to the remaining batter. Mix for 1 more minute on medium-high, scrapping the sides of the bowl often.

Step 5 – Pour half of the batter into one of the two remaining 8″ pans. Place to the side.

Step 6 – Add a small amount of the orange food gel (approximately the same amount you used in step 4) to the remaining batter. Mix for 1 minute on medium-high, scrapping the sides of the bowl frequently.

Step 7 – Pour batter into the remaining 8″ pan. Put all pans in the oven and bake for 24 minutes or until a toothpick comes out of the center clean.

Okay once you’ve made it this far, you have two choices – frost your cake with pre-made frosting from a can (colored with a bit of food gel) or making homemade Tangerine Frosting. Yes, I know the first option sounds so much easier, but it won’t taste the same. Don’t do it. The first time I made this cake, I decided to take the short cut and regretted it. Canned frosting overwhelms this cake and takes away from the sweet tangerine flavor. Instead make the Tangerine Frosting for the top of the cake and use Vanilla Frosting between the layers. It’s a bit of extra work, but it looks beautiful, tastes amazing, and compliments your cake in a way canned frosting just won’t. I’ll never take the short cut again.

You will need (Tangerine Frosting): You will need (Vanilla Frosting)
1 cup butter, softened 1/4 cup butter, softened
4 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar 2 cups confectioner’s sugar
5 Tsp. Noble tangerine juice 2-3 Tbsp. milk
2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tsp. vanilla extract

To make the Tangerine Frosting – Using an electric mixer, beat butter in a medium size mixing bowl. Slowly add confectioner’s sugar, then the tangerine juice and vanilla. Beat until smooth on low speed.

To make the Vanilla Frosting – Using an electric mixer, beat the butter until whipped and fluffy. Slowly add confectioner’s sugar, then milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth on low speed. Assemble your cake by putting the brightest layer on the bottom and topping with a layer of the Vanilla Frosting, leaving about a half an inch around the cake’s edge unfrosted (this is so your white frosting doesn’t discolor your orange tangerine frosting). You don’t need a ton of frosting, just enough to create a white layer. This separates the layers and really makes the colors pop. Then top with the next brightest layer and frost with vanilla frosting, again leaving a 1/2 inch around the edge of the cake unfrosted. Top with the lightest colored orange layer.
